Perfume & description by:
Danna Taylor
She skated by me going 90 miles an hour
it
seemed, all pink hair and short skirts. In her wake she left the scent
of
taffy and summer flowers. Almost knocked me off my feet in more ways
than
one, I followed her down the pier to the skate shoppe. The summer's sun
beat down on me and I questioned myself why? Why follow the
short-skirted
sprite? I felt as if I was chasing down a part of my youth, a part of
the
mauve goddesses calling to me to shed the sensible shoes, and forget
about
my teeth retainer at night.
By the time I reached the skate shoppe, I was overheated, I
longed for a drink of sweet pink lemonade, and checking my watch, I
was late for my meeting. She was there, lacing up her canary yellow
go-go boot skates, and all the while blowing those bubbles. Each time
the bubble popped, a shimmer of apple candy sugar floated around her
like a pixy cloud, I wanted to be in the center of that cloud, girly
once more, yet too sophisticated for business meetings or homework, or
dentists. She beckoned me with
a smile and a pink tinged crooked finger, "Come hither," she seemed to
say, "Come to me and I will take the rigidity away, and everyday will
be
all play." I moved slowly towards her, she still smelled of apple
candy,
and sugar, and summer daffodils. She reminded me of my 10th birthday
party,
and puddle jumping in the spring rain, just then she kissed my cheek.
I see the woman, she is looking in windows on her lunch
break, button down blazer in the hot summer sun, I whiz past her at 90
miles an hour blowing pink bubbles into the wind and leaving a trace of
apple candy sugar for her to follow.
