Winterberry Wonderland

The frosty aura of winter meets summery sweetness: ripe blackberry, black currant, black raspberry and pomegranate is given a chill with lightly-sugared white grapefruit and a dash of peppermint, then sprinkled with cinnamon and clove, and conjured with magical discovery in delicate feminine amber.

There was a girl - a quiet and thoughtful kind of girl – who lived on the edge of a magical forest. She and her mother ventured into the forest often not only for sustenance, but to observe and learn the magic of the place: within the trees, whispered upon the wind, sparkling in the dew upon the flowers. And in winter, the magic appeared to be hidden beneath the great icy blanket, but her mother said it made itself known in other ways.

"See?" she called, one day, as they were foraging for whatever might still be found beneath the new-fallen snow. She had gently brushed the ice from a bush where a few berries hung deep within the brambles. "They hide themselves against the cold, and their juice is that much sweeter for their solitude."

One bite convinced the girl...it was a surprise in the midst of a landscape so very changed by the season. A moment of warmth and brightness.

"Such a berry can bestow a great deal of sweetness upon so many things," her mother said, and they gathered all they could find, carefully delving to avoid the thorns.

Some time later the girl was building a snowman. Decidedly male, for she was lonely and craved charming company. His form took solid shape as she patiently scraped the stacks of snow, giving him broad shoulders, then long arms of fallen oak branches. His head was of a pleasing size: a carrot for a nose and deep black chunks of coal for his eyes. But his mouth was important, his mouth required...something special.

She ran to the warm kitchen, where the berries huddled together in a basket awaiting digestion. She selected the most pleasing and plump and brought them to her new friend, carefully using their juice to color the mouth she fashioned within the ice. She breathed her warmth upon it, smiling at the delicious scent filling the chilly air.

"There...now you'll have a sweet disposition, won't you, my friend?"

The wind picked up, whistling the icy song of winter, but she did not shiver. Rather, it seemed charged with portent, swirling about the figures. She gasped, not meaning to, but now...her new friend was definitely smiling all on his own.

"I like berries," he said, "are there any more?"
